Toyota Malaysia has updated its official website to include a new hybrid model. While it is not yet officially available for sale, the Toyota Vios Hybrid already has estimated pricing, and Malaysian consumers can expect its official launch soon. The neighboring Thai market is already offering this model, and we can refer to their specifications to get a clear picture of what to expect locally.
Toyota Vios Hybrid Prices in Malaysia
Two hybrid variants of the Vios are expected to arrive in Malaysia. Consumer will be offered either the standard Toyota Vios Hybrid Electric and a more premium version, the Toyota Vios HEV GR Sport.
According to the official page, final prices are not yet confirmed. However, estimated starting prices for these two new models are RM103,900 and RM109,900, respectively.
Toyota Vios Hybrid Cheaper Than Honda City Hybrid
At these prices, it is clear that Toyota Malaysia intends to offer strong competition to rivals in the B-segment sedan category, namely the Honda City Hybrid. The City e:HEV currently available in Malaysia is the facelift version launched in August 2023. Before the end of 2025, Honda Malaysia performed a minor upgrade by adding a 360-degree camera system without increasing the price.
For reference, the Honda City RS e:HEV is priced at RM111,900, making it currently the only C-segment hybrid sedan available in Malaysia. Additionally, Honda’s hybrid remains one of the most fuel-efficient cars in Malaysia.
Toyota Vios Hybrid Specifications for Malaysia
While waiting for the official specifications for the Toyota Vios Hybrid in Malaysia, we can look at the model already available in Thailand, known there as the Yaris Ativ HEV. The introduction of a hybrid system marks the biggest change for the Vios generation yet, as Toyota aims to remain competitive in fuel efficiency within the C-segment sedan market.
Toyota claims the Yaris Ativ HEV achieves fuel efficiency of 29.4 km/L. If accurate, this could surpass the Honda City e:HEV, which is rated at 27.8 km/L. However, real-world performance will vary depending on driving style and environmental conditions.
Difference Between Vios Hybrid and Vios HEV GR Sport
Both the Vios HEV and HEV GR Sport share the same powertrain. A 1.5L petrol engine combined with an electric motor produces a total of 111 PS with 141 Nm of torque. Both models use a 0.76 kW Li-ion battery to power the electric motor, transmitting energy through an e-CVT transmission.
Active and passive safety features are identical across both variants. Drivers will find adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with auto-return, ABS/EBD/VSC/TRC, ISOFIX mounts, wireless phone charging, a 10.1” touchscreen, and several other standard features.
The GR Sport variant stands out with a specially tuned suspension for a more dynamic driving experience. Aesthetically, the premium model features 17” alloy wheels (vs. 16” on the standard hybrid), a bolder front grille, additional side skirts, and a rear spoiler.
Difference Between Vios Hybrid and Vios Petrol
The most noticeable difference between the Vios Hybrid and Vios Petrol is the powertrain. Without the electric motor, the petrol variant produces lower output. The Vios 1.5G AT generates 94 PS compared to 111 PS in the hybrid. The petrol tank is larger (40L vs 36L), but driving range per tank is not comparable to the hybrid. In terms of dimensions, both models are nearly identical, and both use the MacPherson/Torsion suspension setup.
The newer hybrid also benefits from cabin upgrades. It features a larger infotainment screen (10.1” vs 9”), while the petrol version has a smaller screen and lacks wireless charging and interior ambient lighting.
Both variants share similar active and passive driver-assist features.

The Toyota Vios Hybrid uses two types of battery systems. The first is a high-voltage 0.7 kWh battery, dedicated to powering the electric motor, which is integral to the hybrid system. This battery is not user-serviceable and requires Toyota-certified specialists for maintenance.
The second system is a standard 12V battery, which powers electronics such as the infotainment screen, air conditioning, lights, radio, and other accessories. This battery has a shorter lifespan and will need periodic replacement.
