If you’re looking for a family SUV, the Proton X90 MC (2026) is now available in Malaysia. From the outside, it looks largely similar to the 2023 model. However, this minor change version has been repositioned to be more affordable for Malaysian families.
Prices have been significantly reduced, although several components have been removed or simplified to make the SUV more accessible, with the starting price now falling below RM100,000.

Proton X90 MC (2026) Price in Malaysia
The Proton X90 MC (2026) sees a notable price adjustment. With the early-bird purchase rebate, the starting price drops to below RM100,000. Here are the available variants:
- Lite (7-seater): RM106,800 (RM99,800 with rebate)
- Prime (7-seater): RM116,800 (RM109,800 with rebate)
- Prime X (6-seater): RM122,800 (RM115,800 with rebate)

For comparison, the original Proton X90 (2023) launched at prices ranging from RM123,800 to RM152,800. It also came with four variants, compared to three in this latest update.
For prospective buyers, the Proton X90 continues to come with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, along with 5 years of free labour costs for servicing. Buyers can also enjoy financing rates from as low as 1.95%, as well as trade-in programmes such as Pro-Xchange and Pro-Trade-In.
In Malaysia, the Proton X90 competes with several other 7-seater SUVs including:
- Mitsubishi Xpander (2024): RM99,980–RM109,980
- Perodua Alza (2022): RM62,500–RM75,500
- Chery Tiggo 8 (2026): RM129,800
- Toyota Veloz (2022): RM95,000
- Jetour VT9 (2026): RM119,350–RM124,350
This repositioning of the Proton X90 reflects Proton’s strategy to focus on family buyers who need a spacious SUV capable of carrying up to seven passengers, while keeping ownership costs more manageable.
Proton X90 MC (2026) Specifications
Hybrid system removed from the Proton X90
One of the most significant changes is under the hood. The Proton X90 MC (2026) no longer uses the mild hybrid system. Instead, it now runs on a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 179hp and 290Nm of torque.
Power is delivered to the wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT). Proton claims that fuel consumption remains close to the previous mild-hybrid version, at approximately 14.5km/L.

Proton also says the simplified engine setup helps reduce maintenance costs. Another change is the wheel size, which has been reduced from 19 inches to 18 inches. However, the rear suspension still uses a multi-link setup, which is generally more advanced than the simpler torsion beam design.
Cargo space up to 2,050L
As a family SUV, cargo space remains a key focus. With all seats occupied, the X90 still provides 257L of cargo capacity at the rear.
If more space is needed, the rear seats can be folded down to expand cargo capacity to over 2,000L. In addition to the main cargo area, the X90 also features up to 38 additional storage compartments throughout the cabin.

Inside the cabin, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard across all variants and can be accessed through a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Drivers also get a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, available on the Prime variant.
Compared to the Lite variant, the Prime adds features such as:
- Power-adjustable seats
- Automatic headlights
- Rain sensors
Meanwhile, the Prime X includes additional premium touches such as:
- Nappa leather seats
- Ventilated front and second-row seats

Proton X90 MC (2026) safety features
Unfortunately, the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) has been removed across the lineup.
As a result, drivers will no longer get features such as:
- Adaptive cruise control (now replaced with standard cruise control)
- Lane assist
- Blind spot monitoring
However, the SUV still retains several core safety features including:
- 6 airbags
- Parking sensors
- 360-degree camera system
