KUALA LUMPUR, 6 September 2026 – Bateriku, through its automotive lifestyle platform MotorManiac, successfully concluded the fifth edition of the MotorManiac Festival 2026. Held on 5 and 6 September 2026 at the Rooftop, Level 7, MyTOWN Kuala Lumpur, the festival demonstrated how automotive culture can serve as a gateway for youth participation across multiple forms of culture from streetwear to motorsports communities.

MotorManiac Festival 2026 Celebrates Malaysia’s Youth Culture Through Automotive, Music, Street Sports and International Motorsport

Organised by Bateriku, this year's festival brought together a diverse programme featuring automotive showcases and competitions, MotorManiac x DEF JAM Southeast Asia merchandise collaboration, Blackened Closet, Mini Diecast Expo, Jom Battle, Keep It Street, international drifting personalities, the launch of the MotorManiac Drift Academy and ASTRA Drift Team, as well as live performances by artists from DEF JAM Southeast Asia.

More Than a Car Show: A Platform for Youth Culture

Rather than limiting visitors to a conventional automotive exhibition, MotorManiac created multiple "pockets" of culture throughout the venue, allowing visitors to move between car showcases, streetwear, dance, sports, collectors, motorsports and live entertainment. This combination also provided a platform for local communities and emerging talents to showcase their skills in front of a wider audience.

MotorManiac x DEF JAM: Streetwear Meets Music Culture

One of the key cultural highlights of this year's festival was the exclusive MotorManiac x DEF JAM Southeast Asia merchandise collaboration. The collection, comprising 12 SKUs, brought together two different but closely connected expressions of youth culture, automotive lifestyle and hip-hop culture.

The collaboration went beyond simply placing two logos on merchandise. Its packaging and presentation were developed to reflect the cultural identity of the partnership, including a design inspired by a vinyl record player. Following the collectible-style Hot Wheels-inspired packaging concept introduced during the previous edition, this year's collection continued MotorManiac's approach of treating merchandise as part of the overall cultural experience rather than simply festival souvenirs.

Blackened Closet Brings Street Fashion Into the Festival

Adding another dimension to the festival's cultural programme was Blackened Closet, a new section introduced at MotorManiac Festival 2026. The initiative provided visitors with an opportunity to discover and shop streetwear and lifestyle products within the festival environment, further expanding MotorManiac's role from an automotive event into a broader platform for contemporary youth culture.

Mini Diecast Expo Connects Generations of Collectors

MotorManiac Festival 2026 also celebrated another long-standing part of automotive culture which is collecting. The Mini Diecast Expo provided collectors and enthusiasts with an opportunity to discover rare and exclusive miniature vehicles and dioramas, while also serving as a meeting point for a community that continues to grow among younger generations.

Among the highlights was the Official MDE26 Event Car, alongside the previous MotorManiac R32 Project Car, giving collectors an opportunity to own pieces connected to the MotorManiac community. While full-size automotive projects took centre stage across the festival, their three-inch interpretations offered collectors another way to participate in the culture.

Jom Battle and Keep It Street Bring Street Sports to the Rooftop

The festival's youth culture programme extended into street sports and performance. Jom Battle returned as the Official Breakdance B-Boy Partner, led by Sora.

The competition welcomed dancers from across Malaysia and created an inclusive space where participants could express themselves through movement, music and performance. The event brought together participants and audiences across different age groups, demonstrating how street culture can create communities through shared passion rather than conventional sporting structures.

The festival also introduced Keep It Street, featuring street football and 3v3 competition under the leadership of Zeem Ahmad, Red Bull athlete.

The inclusion of street football added another layer to MotorManiac's youth-focused programming, bringing together sport, freestyle performance, and urban culture. Together, Jom Battle and Keep It Street demonstrated that youth culture can take many forms. This platform could complement existing government efforts to provide young Malaysians with meaningful spaces to participate, develop skills and build communities.

Automotive Competitions Remain at the Heart of MotorManiac

While the festival expanded into different cultural segments, automotive culture remained at its core. Visitors were able to explore a wide range of automotive builds and participate in various competitions throughout the festival. Among the standout activities were the Limbo Competition and 2 Step, two of MotorManiac's signature automotive attractions that challenged participants to demonstrate creativity, vehicle setup and technical execution.

The competitive environment also provided enthusiasts with a platform to showcase their builds and gain recognition within the wider automotive community. This community-driven approach remains central to MotorManiac's identity. Providing a space where passion for cars can develop into participation, competition and eventually opportunities within the wider automotive industry.

MotorManiac Drift Academy Opens a New Pathway for Malaysia's Young Motorsport Talent

Perhaps the most significant development introduced at MotorManiac Festival 2026 was the launch of the MotorManiac Drift Academy and the ASTRA Drift Team. The launch marked an important step in MotorManiac's evolution from an automotive lifestyle platform into one that can also contribute towards structured motorsport talent development.

The initiative was unveiled in the presence of prominent figures from the international drifting community, including Rome Charpentier, an American professional drift driver competing in the Formula Drift Pro Championship; Vernon Zwaneveld, a Dutch professional drifting figure, trainer and internationally recognised FIA-certified judge; Indonesia's Dika Champion, a leading Indonesian drift driver and Drift King; and fellow Indonesian driver Alvito Hardianto.

The MotorManiac Drift Academy is a founding member of the World Drift School Alliance (WDSA), an international collaboration involving Malaysia, Indonesia, the United States and the Netherlands.Through this collaboration, the academy aims to develop Malaysia's next generation of drifting talent through structured training, international collaboration, student exchange programmes and pathways towards professional competition.

Supported by international drifting professionals and FIA-certified judges, the programme is intended to provide a more structured pathway for aspiring drivers to progress from grassroots participation towards national and international competition, including potential opportunities in major drifting markets such as Japan and the United States.

For young Malaysians interested in motorsports, this creates a pathway that extends beyond simply owning or modifying a car. It creates the possibility of developing skills, receiving professional training, learning from international drivers and judges, building competitive experience and representing Malaysia on the international stage.

ASTRA Drift Team Supports the Next Generation of Motorsport

The launch of the ASTRA Drift Team further strengthens this ambition. ASTRA's involvement provides a platform for Malaysian athletes to develop their careers within a competitive motorsport environment. Among the athletes representing the ASTRA Drift Team are Mike Faizi and Daleela Dasuki, who will serve as sponsored athletes as the team develops its presence within the drifting community.

Their participation represents an important part of MotorManiac's broader objective which creating visibility for Malaysian motorsport talent while providing athletes with opportunities to build their skills, profiles and competitive experience. With the support of international partners and personalities through the WDSA network, MotorManiac aims to create an environment where Malaysian drivers can learn from established professionals while eventually competing at higher levels.

The international character of MotorManiac Festival 2026 extended beyond drifting. The festival also welcomed collaborations with automotive media and content creators from across the region and beyond, including CarCulth from Thailand, Smokey Nicole from Australia, Tatsu Miyagawa and Clay Wong from Japan, and Final Drive from Brunei.

Their participation demonstrates the growing potential of MotorManiac as a regional automotive lifestyle platform capable of connecting Malaysia's automotive community with international audiences. In an increasingly digital environment, these cultural exchanges can also translate into content, collaborations and communities that continue long after the festival ends.

DEF JAM Brings Music and Automotive Communities Together

As the Official Stage Partner, DEF JAM Southeast Asia brought an open-air live concert experience to the MyTOWN rooftop, giving visitors a combination of automotive culture and contemporary hip-hop entertainment. The two-day line-up featured Lil J, Yonnyboii, Ismail Izzani and ALYPH on Day One, followed by AbangSapau, SonaOne and Joe Flizzow on Day Two.

Building Communities, Not Just Events

MotorManiac's evolution reflects a wider shift in how young people engage with culture. By placing these communities together in one environment, Bateriku aims to create opportunities for young people to discover new interests, meet like-minded individuals, showcase their abilities and potentially develop their passions into careers, businesses or professional pathways.

Through closer collaboration with Malaysian government agencies like Ministry of Youth and its agencies, future editions could expand beyond a two-day festival into a wider youth programme involving workshops, competitions, talent development, community activities and regional or international exchanges.

This philosophy is also reflected in the development of the MotorManiac Mobile app, a digital platform designed to connect automotive enthusiasts, brands and partners through event ticketing, merchandise, performance parts, an automotive marketplace and community features. The combination of physical events and digital platforms allows MotorManiac to build a community that remains active beyond the festival weekend.

Creating a Platform for Malaysia's Youth to Be Seen

MotorManiac represents more than an extension of its automotive ecosystem. It represents an opportunity to invest in the communities surrounding mobility, particularly the young people who will shape Malaysia's automotive and lifestyle culture in the years ahead.

For Bateriku, this is the essence of Beyond Batteries. Building ecosystems, growing communities and creating movements that extend beyond a single product or industry.

MMF 2026-2 Step.webp

MotorManiac looks towards its next chapter which is to continue giving young Malaysians a platform to express their passions, develop their talents and take Malaysian automotive and youth culture to a global audience. And act as a platform that contributes directly to youth participation, talent development and Malaysia’s creative and sporting ecosystem.

From the streets of Malaysia to the international stage, MotorManiac is building the next generation of automotive culture.
