MotorManiac Festival 2026 has demonstrated how a grassroots gathering of automotive enthusiasts can evolve into a tourism attraction capable of drawing both local and international visitors. The festival brought together automotive communities, motorsports, music and contemporary lifestyle culture in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Held at the Rooftop, Level 7 of MyTOWN Kuala Lumpur on 5 and 6 September 2026, the festival marked the fifth edition of MotorManiac, organised by Bateriku. Throughout the two-day event, visitors came together in a vibrant environment to share their common interests in cars, music and street culture.

MotorManiac Is More Than an Automotive Festival
Part of what makes MotorManiac Festival 2026 an attraction is its combination of different cultural elements.
Each element is driven by its own community, coming together to create a unique festival experience. MotorManiac x DEF JAM Southeast Asia brought live performances to the main stage, Jom Battle hosted hip-hop dance competitions, Keep It Street brought freestyle football athletes into the festival, while Mini Diecast Expo gathered collectors, particularly those passionate about Hot Wheels and miniature automotive culture.

These additional elements are important because MotorManiac attracts visitors across different age groups and interests. The variety keeps the festival dynamic while giving different communities a reason to participate.
This type of event is also relevant to Malaysia's tourism ecosystem because it creates a reason for people to travel around a shared interest.

In 2025 alone, Malaysia recorded 290.1 million domestic visitors, generating RM121.3 billion in domestic tourism expenditure. The figures highlight the scale of domestic travel and the opportunity for events such as MotorManiac to create additional reasons for Malaysians to travel within the country in search of unique experiences.

International Automotive Communities at MotorManiac
One of the clearest indicators of MotorManiac's tourism potential was the participation of international automotive personalities.
The festival welcomed American Formula Drift driver Rome Charpentier, Dutch professional drifter and FIA-certified judge Vernon Zwaneveld, as well as renowned Indonesian drifters Dika Champion and Alvito Hardianto.

MotorManiac also attracted automotive media and content creators from Thailand, Australia, Japan and Brunei, strengthening connections between Malaysia's automotive community and international audiences.
While MotorManiac is primarily a consumer-facing festival, it also has its own commercial ecosystem, giving participating businesses an opportunity to showcase products and services ranging from automotive parts to vehicle modifications.
The international dimension also reflects the wider role that events can play in Malaysia's visitor economy. According to the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), Malaysia hosted more than 3,575 business events, attracting over 4.5 million delegates and generating an estimated RM26.77 billion in economic impact.
MotorManiac may operate in a different event category, but it demonstrates the same underlying potential: people can have a reason to travel to Malaysia because something unique is happening here.
MotorManiac Gives Visitors Another Reason to Visit Kuala Lumpur
MotorManiac's location also adds to its potential as a tourism event.
Held against the Kuala Lumpur skyline, visitors could see landmarks including Merdeka 118, the Petronas Twin Towers, TRX and KL Tower while enjoying the festival's automotive showcases and live performances.

This combination demonstrates how an event can become part of a destination experience rather than existing separately from it.
Located on the rooftop of MyTOWN Shopping Centre, MotorManiac also places visitors within a wider retail and entertainment environment. The shopping centre houses more than 380 stores, including IKEA, while its direct connection to Cochrane MRT station provides convenient access for visitors travelling around Kuala Lumpur.

For families and visitors travelling from outside the city, MotorManiac can become one stop within a wider Kuala Lumpur itinerary, allowing them to combine the festival with shopping, dining, entertainment and other attractions.
However, MotorManiac Festival 2026 will be the final edition held at the MyTOWN rooftop. A new venue for future editions will be announced at a later date, with potential locations including Putrajaya and the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
MotorManiac Brings Automotive Culture and the Creative Economy Together
MotorManiac sits at the intersection of Malaysia's tourism and creative economy.
The festival brings together music, fashion, automotive culture, content creators and creative communities under one roof, creating an experience that appeals to visitors with different interests.

The interaction and commercial activity generated throughout the event can benefit multiple parts of the ecosystem. Malaysia's creative economy contributed RM130.7 billion to the country's GDP, equivalent to 6.8% of GDP in 2024, highlighting the significant role creative industries can play in the wider economy.
MotorManiac is supported by an established brand and a community with a strong interest in automotive culture, while its international participation provides opportunities for further collaboration.

The development of the MotorManiac Drift Academy and ASTRA Drift Team, together with its connection to the World Drift School Alliance, further strengthens these international links. Beyond the festival itself, these initiatives create opportunities for long-term collaboration, talent development and cultural exchange between Malaysia and the international motorsport community.
A Malaysian Automotive Festival With Global Potential
The evolution of MotorManiac shows how automotive culture can contribute to Malaysia's wider tourism ecosystem.
What began as a small gathering of automotive enthusiasts has grown into an event that brings together local and international automotive communities, while giving visitors the opportunity to experience cars, motorsports, music, street culture and entertainment in Kuala Lumpur.
With an established identity, a growing community and international participation, MotorManiac has the ingredients to become more than another automotive event.
MotorManiac is no longer simply an event to attend. It is becoming a reason for people to come to Kuala Lumpur.
