Battery Types And Advantages

Battery can be divided into several types. For Proton Persona users, the suitable battery type is Wet Cell/MF (Standard). This type of battery is much cheaper compared to other batteries in the market and the lifespan of this type of battery is 18-24 Months depending on the way of usage. This type of battery is already sufficient for daily use.

The Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB) type lasts longer and strong enough for vehicle use for 24 to 36 months. This type of battery is not a necessity, however still can be used if needed, especially for users who often use electrical accessories such as car radio, dashcam, or additional lighting system. It gives better performance stability compared to the standard battery, especially in city driving conditions that frequently stop and start.

The AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) type is a premium choice for Proton Persona users. This battery is designed to withstand heavier electrical use as well as vibration or extreme conditions, making it more durable with lifespan up to 3 to 5 years. Although its price is higher compared to Wet Cell/MF and EFB types, AGM battery is suitable for users who install large audio system, 24 hours dashcam, or other additional electrical accessories. It also gives more stable performance even if the car is rarely used or frequently stop-start in city conditions.

Best Battery Selection for Proton Persona

The selection of suitable battery for Proton Persona depends on the generation and type of engine of the car. In general, Persona uses 1.6 engine, either CamPro or VVT version, and the usual battery size installed is DIN55R and NS60RS.

For Persona first generation with CamPro engine, the most used battery is DIN55R because the positive terminal is located on the right side, and capacity around 45–60Ah is sufficient to support engine operation as well as basic electrical system.

Meanwhile, for Persona second generation with VVT engine, the standard battery used is also usually NS60RS, with option of NS60RS to ensure stable electrical performance, even though the capacity and size still meet the requirement of car electrical system.

What is NS60R NS: Nippon Standard (Size according to Japanese Industrial Standard). 60: Capacity category or battery performance. R (Right): Position of Positive Terminal which is on the right side.

What is DIN55R DIN: German Standard (European Standard) 55: Performance index / Battery capacity R (Right): Position of Positive Terminal which is on the right side.
